I went to the Washington Post yesterday. There were many things which I had never seen. I would like to see working machines. In the afternoon, we practiced chatting. Chat in English was very difficult, but it was very interesting. In the evening, we went to a supermarket. It was very big. There were many foods, so I was very excited. I bought a lot of cookies, candies, and so on. At night, we had a donut party. I was very sleepy, but I was so happy because I made friends with classmates!

It's always interesting to see something you've never seen before, isn't it? Also, I'm glad to hear that you've enjoyed shopping around the supermarket, and the party! Oh, by the way, I guess I'll be able to join the next chat! I'm lookinf forward to talking to you through the internet. ^^
I would also have liked to see the presses "rolling", but Jim Shirlen told me they can't give tours when the presses are rolling because it's too noisy; nobody can hear the tour guide! Also I think it must be a little dangerous, with the AGVs scuttling around delivering those huge rolls of paper to the presses. But I would like to see it.
Chatting is difficult in any language, but I think it's a lot of fun! Hopefully one day we can chat in English together :D

I'm enjoying the posts in your blog. Your observations about shopping, visiting monuments, the trip to the Washington Post printing plant, chatting in English, and the lecture about international relations were very interesting.
I was touched by your thoughts on seeing the Vietnam War Memorial. I agree completely that war must not be repeated. At the same time, I was saddened that the U.S. continues to have a presence in Iraq.
I also thought your observatation that "I didn't know what I didn't know" (regarding the international relations lecture) were very thought-provoking. I often feel exactly the same way when I'm trying to understand a language other than English.
Finally, I agree that it's difficult to chat in a language other than one's native language. I've had the same experience in Spanish. However, I agree with Laura: "Chatting is difficult in any language, but I think it's fun."
I hope you continue to have an interesting, memorable stay in Maryland!
